The surgery

On March 11, 2010, after nearly a year of constant pain in my right (blind) eye, I went into Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates' office to have my eye removed. The decision was a painstaking one, and required a lot of thought and talks with both my parents and my boyfriend as to which was the best option.

I will admit that I don't like change. Abhor it is more accurate. So it was with a heavy heart that I decided to have my eye removed, a process that is irreversible.

3-17-10: The Realization That My Eye Is Gone

Well after being upbeat and positive the first 6 days after surgery, the realization hit me full in the face on the night of St Patrick's Day: My eye is gone. It is not coming back. And nothing anyone can do can put it back.

Cue immediate tears. Of course this would occur while I was in the middle of holding warm washcloths up to my eye to soothe it, thereby putting pressure on the stitch that's currently holding my 2 eyelids together.

The good news is we heard from the pathology lab today and my eye didn't have any cancer. However, that's a small consolation considering I can't just put it back in.

Oh well. Live and learn. At any rate, you live.

That is all for now.
